George Boynton, March 11, 2010 – from Donna deManby Boynton SMC 68

(Also, see photos Donna sent of George with grandchildren and with Donna and Tom Schetter.)
Since my husband George Boynton (known by his stepfather's last name at college as George Anderson) loved Notre Dame so much, I thought I would write. Our daughter Jenny ND' 93 married Mario Borelli ND'93, the son of Professors Dr. Mario Borelli and Angela Borelli. As you can see we had quite a connection to the University and made many trips back. George retired early as an assistant vice-president of Odyssey Reinsurance. Unfortunately he developed cancer 5 months later and died on March 11, 2010. ND friends are forever. His roommate, Bill Phippard, a lawyer in San Diego, flew all the way from California to Connecticut for the funeral. Other ND roommates Denny Simon, a lawyer from Wisconsin, and Tom Hudson, a CEO and owner of a computer technology company in Minnesota, sent their condolences.
Tom Schetter, fellow band mate from Ohio, will be making a memorial visit this summer. An award in George's name (the George F. Boynton Award) is being set up at Notre Dame for a senior band student to be given out yearly. Notre Dame lost one of its prized sons far too early.

Thomas J. Bernard, July, 2009

See the obituary for Tom here: http://ndclass-1968.figelpr.com/Thomas Bernard, July, 2009

Thomas Bernard was living in State College, PA, where he was a professor of Criminal Justice and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania.  Tom’s obituary, found on the class blog, attests to a life of great accomplishment as a father, husband, author, and community volunteer.  Despite a prediction of death within the year when Hodgkins Disease became evident in 1969, Tom lived ferociously and happily

Bob Nenoff

Robert J. Nenoff died during June, 2009 in Greensburg, PA.  Tom Weyer remembers the fame Bob gained when he held the football for a 35-yard field goal in an interhall game.  Bob then joined the Notre Dame fencing squad when, in Tom's estimation, Bob's thick-chested frame and short stature did not match the usual willowly look of the fencer.  Maybe Bob won by slashing his opponents across the shins and ankles, Tom said.

Bill Clifford story about George Restovich, freshman

Subject: George Restovich

During the first weeks of our Freshman year a crowd inexplicably gathers at Cartier Field for an impromptu pep rally. Some obnoxious senior starts berating the assembled Freshman. George Restovich is summoned from out of the Freshman crowd, and ordered to lead the Freshman in a cheer. George is caught off guard, and unprepared. After a pause, he asks if there are any Latin scholars among the assembled freshman. No response. George then announces that he has a Latin cheer for us. “Hic haec hoc, hic haec hoc, hit em in the belly with a big lead rock”. The crowd goes wild…. Ara’s reign is launched. George had charisma from day one.
